The Dalkey United Champions League was a spectacular event that showcased the talent and passion of local football players. Our goal was to make this event more engaging for the community and to bring more footballing opportunities to our players.
Over two days, 370 players formed 38 teams to compete across various age groups, with the support of over 100 volunteers. It was clear that they players enjoyed the thrill of playing with and against friends from the community and the community of parents and supporters enjoyed the opportunity to connect and celebrate the sport together. “We were delighted to be associated with the Dalkey United Champions League this year. It is an event that continues to celebrate all that is good in the community and in football. It’s ongoing success is a great testimony to the many volunteers who make the Club the great community Football Club it is today. We look forward to partnering with the Club in the future.” – Trevor Grant.
Thanks is also due to SuperValu Dalkey who made a significant contribution to the success of the weekend, donating all the food and soft drinks sold at the BBQ and tuck shop and to Gavin Divilly and CaterHire for their contributions. Additionally, thank you to our pitch sponsors: Sia Partners, Bel Gelato, Red Flag, Home Instead, and Mason Hayes and Curran.
One of the key factors in the success of the weekend was the number of volunteers who came forward from the coaches but as importantly from the parents and other groups within the club. We’d like to recognize the heavy lifting from our event lead, Stephen Cullen, and the dedicated committee of Conor Keating, Dion Fanning, Dominick Rihan, Gavin Ng, Kim Fortune, Oran MacLaverty, and Sean O’Connor that made the event possible. We would love to see more parents involved in various roles within the club and if anyone would like to get more involved please lets usknow. In particular, the committee is looking for someone to become girls co-ordinator. The girls side of the club has gone from strength to strength but we believe could be stronger with better organisation.
